Being a Counselor

Counselor helps a camper with his climbing harness at Camp Arrohwead.

Working at Camp Arrowhead is one of the most rewarding ways you can spend your summer. Over ten unforgettable weeks, you’ll make a real impact — helping boys grow in confidence, creativity, and character. Along the way, you’ll build lifelong friendships, learn new skills, and collect stories you’ll tell for years to come.

At Arrowhead, you’re not just an employee — you’re a mentor, a teacher, and part of a legacy that’s been shaping young lives since 1937.

Be a mentor

As a camp counselor at Camp Arrowhead, you’ll live, eat, play, explore, learn, and grow alongside your campers. Every day offers the opportunity to share what you love — teaching activities, leading adventures, and modeling what it means to be kind, responsible, and resilient.

Counselors show boys how to look out for one another, communicate positively, and step outside their comfort zones. You’ll be a role model, a teacher, and a friend — guiding your cabin through games, campfires, challenges, and countless moments of laughter and discovery.

Join a Community

Living and working alongside the same group of people is a powerful experience. At Camp Arrowhead, we work together, play together, and learn from one another every day. We challenge each other to grow, celebrate each other’s successes, and laugh — a lot.

Becoming part of this close-knit team means sharing ten intense, unforgettable weeks filled with adventure, purpose, and connection. By the end of the summer, you’ll understand what true community feels like — and you’ll carry that spirit with you long after camp ends.

Build your resume

Working at a summer camp is one of the best ways to gain real-world experience that future employers value. At Camp Arrowhead, you’ll learn to work collaboratively under tight timelines, communicate effectively with both small and large groups, manage multiple projects at once, and bring your own creative ideas to life.

By the end of the summer, you’ll leave with a stronger résumé and a toolkit of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills that translate to any career path. At Arrowhead, we’ll support you in developing those abilities — and help you recognize just how capable you really are.

What is a typical day like at Camp Arrowhead?

Trick question — no two days at Arrowhead are exactly the same! As a counselor, you’ll need to be flexible and ready to jump in wherever you’re needed.

Your morning starts by getting your cabin up and ready before heading to breakfast with your campers. Afterward, you’ll spend the morning teaching your activity — whether it’s fishing, crafting, sports, or something totally unique to you.

After lunch and Cabin Time come Choice Blocks, where you lead special activities that change daily — a hike, an archery challenge, maybe even a camp-wide “mission.”

Afternoons wrap up with Free Swim and Open Adventure, followed by dinner and the always-popular Evening Program — big group games, campfires, or movie nights.

The day ends back in the cabin, winding down with stories, laughter, and reflections before lights out.
