At Camp Arrowhead, boys will learn to utilize their own powers and resources rather than solely depending on those of others. Our goal of fostering a boy’s confidence in his ability to succeed is paramount to becoming Self-Reliant in a time when gratification is instant and feedback isn’t always consistent. They will also be shown that asking for help and guidance is not a weakness, but rather a part of being self-reliant.
Camp Arrowhead teaches boys the skills needed to enter the world as a leader when it is so easy to become a follower. Camp removes the unrelenting messaging and noise that target our youth today, that tell them what they are is not enough. This allows boys to think for themselves, to be themselves, and to take charge and responsibility of their actions and lives. As they do this, they will learn the difference between commitment and preference. We aim to put the power in their hands by giving them the opportunities to lead, and by modeling leadership everyday through the counselors and directors at camp. Camp Counselors are far better role models than the athletes, actors, and Instagram influencers of our time. By giving boys the confidence of being self-reliant, we open the door for them to be confident leaders.
Living in nature and experiencing it first hand can teach a boy more than any textbook. Outdoor Adventure doesn’t have to be climbing the highest mountain, or paddling the roughest rapids. It can be as simple as witnessing the power of a single insect, or walking through a creek searching for salamanders. Camp Arrowhead provides the Outdoor Adventure each boy yearns for. He may find this adventure in camp or out of camp on a trip. He may find it in the grass behind his cabin, or at the base of a great waterfall in Dupont. He may find it in learning and searching for edible plants in camp, or racing down a trail on his mountain bike. The point is, he will be given the chance to find his own adventure and the preparation and support needed to face it confidently. He won’t be able to instantly google a bird call, or use a gps,
The idea of Self-Expression is key to life at Camp Arrowhead. We provide an environment where boys can be their true self. In today’s world, everyone we face has countless facades built up around themselves as an armor or hiding place. Camp allows people to take off this armor and feel confident in their ability to express themselves productively. Self-Expression at camp can be through friendships, crafting and art, or just letting loose and having fun. Nobody at camp is going to tell you how to go about expressing yourself
