A New Year at Camp Arrowhead

Happy Overnight Camper Swimming in the Arrowhead Lake.

The start of a new year always brings a little perspective.

Winter is quieter at camp. The fields rest. The cabins sit still. The forge is cold. But behind the scenes, this is one of our busiest seasons — planning, preparing, and getting ready for the summer ahead.

It’s also a good moment to pause.

To look back at what worked.
To think about what mattered most.
And to get excited for what’s coming next.

Looking Back

Every summer leaves its mark.

We think about the friendships that formed quickly and somehow felt old by the end of the session. The projects boys carried home proudly. The moments when someone tried something new — and surprised themselves.

Those are the things that stick with us. Not because they were flashy or dramatic, but because they were real.

Looking Ahead

As we move into a new year, we’re focused on what we’ve always done best:

  • creating full, active days

  • giving boys space to be kids

  • keeping camp simple, grounded, and unplugged

  • making sure fun still comes first

Some things will be new this summer. Some things will stay exactly the same. That balance matters to us.

Tradition gives camp its roots. Thoughtful change keeps it healthy.

Winter at Camp

Right now, camp is quiet — but not idle.

Workshops are being cleaned and tuned. Gear is getting checked. Schedules are being shaped. Staff are being hired. Ideas are being sketched out on paper and talked through over coffee.

All of it points toward one thing: getting ready to welcome boys back to the mountains.

Camp in the Winter

Camp is different in the wintertime. While not always snow covered, the leafless trees make for some impressive views. This one from Council Fire was beautiful.

For Families Thinking About Summer

If you’re reading this while thinking about the months ahead, know this:

Camp Arrowhead isn’t about chasing trends or filling every moment. It’s about giving kids a place where days feel full, friendships feel easy, and summer feels the way it should.

The new year is a good time to plan. It’s also a good time to imagine what kind of summer you want for your son.

We’re looking forward to another one.

Here’s to the Year Ahead

A new year always carries a sense of possibility.

We’re grateful for the families who trust us, the boys who bring camp to life, and the summers that keep repeating themselves in the best way.

Here’s to the year ahead — and to summer, waiting just around the corner.
