Websites to Aid Homeschool Adventures

Written by Alli King

School closures are tough on us all. These are some of our favorite websites to help.

The Cincinnati Zoo (home to Fiona the hippo) is having daily 'Home Safaris' with Facebook Live at 3PM. Each day they introduce you to different animals/exhibits, and sometimes link to aligned activities!

Hubble.png

Great Discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope shows some of the most incredible photographs from deep space. From nebulas, supernova explosions, and galaxy mergers, you can really get a whole new view of the universe.

Need some zen time? Check out the sea jelly webcam from The Georgia Aquarium. You can also watch some of their more lively animals, like sea otters and beluga whales.

Shark.jpg

Another great website for animal watching is the Monterey Bay Aquarium. With their webcams, you can spend time observing sharks, sea turtles, and their downright hypnotic moon jellies. Even better? They’ve put together a week(or more!) worth of science activities and instruction, differentiated by grade group.

Monticello.jpg

You can virtually walk in Thomas Jefferson's footsteps with this Virtual Tour of Monticello. Explore the house and grounds of the third president, writer of the Declaration of Independence, and (some may say most importantly) founder of the University of Virginia.

Body Coach.png

Is your kid missing PE? This Youtube Channel already has a lot of movement videos aimed towards kids. Starting March 23, 'The Body Coach' will be posting daily (M-F) workouts. They're supposed to be around 30 minutes and won't need a lot of space.

Parents, are you having trouble discussing all that’s going on with your child? This article from Psychology Today breaks down how you can talk about the pandemic at different ages. If you haven’t seen it, NPR also put this information in kid-friendly comic form.
